I'm really stuck with this. The car will not start (W210 E300d) Lights start flashing, red and green on interior mirror after a few seconds when I turn the key to glow plug pre heat.

I have removed the MB dealer installed alarm system (I think) On disconnecting one of two wires that go to the remote control unit the car started but immobilised as soon as it was stopped this happened once today and once yesterday. It doesn't happen each time.

I've renewed the battery, car and remote.

Anyone any ideas were I should be looking to get the car going?

In my experience, it simply means changing that the battery on your remote key is flat and need replacing. Try putting a new battery in the control and see. Make sure whatever you unplugged/ uninstalled earlier on are correctly reconnected.

good luck

Hi,

Tried both remote battery replacement and main car replacement with no success.

Eventually found cure after two days chasing around wiring but is so easy it even overides immobiliser so I cannot really say how to get round it but the car starts every time now.

I take it that you re-synched the key after you replaced the batteries?
If the green and red lights are flashing together then it means the transmitter batteries are low. To test, look at the infrared bit of the key in low light, press the key and you should see a dim red light in there.

If the red and green lights are flashing alternatively, it means the engine is still immobilised. I would try resynching the key.

Do you have another key or is this happening with both keys?

the answer here is a simple no.....

You will need to go to MB, bring your documentation, they will need your chassis no. and a hefty wad of cash (here its around ?250) upfront. They will order the key and you will get it about 2 weeks later.

Its worth checking what security info you will need to bring with you, ie proff of identity

Its well worth while checking with the previous owner if they have a spare key thrown in a drawer somewhere - this happened to me and I called to the guy and lo and behold, he had one!

I bought a key recently for my '98 W202. It cost about £60, can't remember exactly. You need your V5 (and take your driving license for good measure as proof of who you are) and the key is ordered from Germany against the chassis number. You have a choice whether to pay an extra couple of quid for the metal key bit as well.

ok this is really confusing me...

i have a merc c220 (1995) and i'm having occaisional problems starting the car

yesterday after reading another post

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=12864

where i talked about the red/green flashing lights, i noticed my infrared light on my key was extrememly DIM when pressed and although i only rarely noticed red/green flashing i decided to replace the batteries in the key with newer ones.

Once done, i can now see the infrared led on the key very clearly, but strangely now, 9 times out of ten when i press the newly powered key, my rear view mirror flashes red/green at the SAME time when getting in the car. Sometimes when turning the ignition the car won't start, more often than not it will start but now I see the red/green flashing on my rear view mirror for about a minute (alternating) before it stops flashing, the car drives just fine but this is annoying me, i'd like to know where to look for solving this.

someone mentioned 'resynching' the key, how is that done exactly ?

i've tried with both my main key and spare key and both produce the exact same problem, even when i choose to 'close' the car using the key it does lock the car but i see the mirror and driver door flashing red/green (at the same time, not alternating) instead of flashing only RED.

can someone more knowledagble than me please advise

cheers

When you removed the alarm system did you join the imobiliser wire properly, best to solder all wires that you join...
