Contemplating my next
My spare key now only unlocks the car, but will not operate the ignition.

Any ideas? Or is replacement required??

Leave it in the ignition for awhile (overnight if possible) and it may re-sync again

Sorry to but in here, on the last thread we had with the EIS lock the fault is caused by leaving the key in and it should not be done. This is MB info

Was that not both keys not working?

I know what you posted has been done, but it was during the post on Friday that I read this. when the key is left in the lock a small current flows and it could be the heat that builds up, but on the other hand the key does stay in the whole time that the engine runs. I do not know more.

Malcolm

the info was for cars with EIS ignition key

Ok, I would look at it this way. If the EIS is on the way out leaving the key in would not do much damage as it is likely to die anyway. However if it is just a re-sync issue then leaving the key in should fix it.
However it is not my car so ShinyF1 will have to decide his best course of action.
