I have been getting drips of power steering fluid under the car for a while now
Steadily getting worse

I have checked the hoses and they seem fine so I think the reservoir must have cracked.

I have tried to remove it to see but I am having trouble removing the larger of the two hoses.
It seems very tight for space to work on because of the inlet manifold.

I have searched the forum for anyone who has reported and repaired this problem before but I haven't found my answer.

Can anyone suggest how the best way to remove the reservoir

Cheers

Steve

Just an idea Steven, is it easier to undo the pipe from the pump end.

Hi Malcolm
My worry is that it's that short I don't think I could get my hand in to push it back on.

I've managed to buy a second hand reservoir off eBay so now it's just a case of fitting it.
In the mean time the car has started to smoke under acceleration
I believe this could be the erg valve that needs cleaning.
Removing this might give me a little more room to fit the reservoir
So my new question is how do I remove the erg valve
I can see there is a large clip round the hose
But before I go st it all gung Ho
Does it just pull off?
I'm guessing once this is removed I can get to the bottom bolt on the erg

I really need to sort this out soon as I'm starting to leave a trail of power steering fluid & the black smoke is like something out of James Bond

So any advice offerd would be appreciated

Cheers

Steve

Maybe PS fluid is dripping onto exhaust pipe giving the smoke?

If you did undo pipe at pump, maybe when replacing you can first fit pipe to pump, (off reservoir) giving you the space needed, then fit reservoir?

Thank you Flyinspanner

The fluid doesn't go near the exhaust so it's not causing the smoke
I'm getting symptoms of smoke under heavy acceleration when it decides to shift. Also intermittent kick down.
This leads me to think the erg valve is coaked up and needs a clean.
But I'm unsure how the big pipe comes off the erg?

Cheers

Steve

I've fixed the leaking reservoir
The job was made easier by removing the ERG valve.
But had to remove a fuel pipe from the filter in order to wriggle the bottle free.
It had cracked where the thinner pipe attaches (see picture).
I also cleaned the ERG as good as I could with engine degreaser
Let's see if it stops the smoke.
A thank you to Malcolm.
The larger hose was indeed easier to remove from the pump end.

I'm just hoping no more leaks.

I also changed the rear brake pads as per the MOT advisory.
So all good to go till the next problem.

I am so sorry that I could not offer any positive advise on doing this job, but I am pleased that the job is done.

I've been looking at possible faults with the ERG as the acceleration is still erratic.

should my ERG valve be connected with a vacuum hose?

I can see the rubber pipe from the unit that goes to a bracket but nothing is connected the other side??

Why not do the simple EGR mod where it is deleted.

Hi Malcolm

That's kind of my question

Mine is not connected to anything electrical or vacuum
So how does it operate?

I think I have answered my question by looking at the posts for the ERG mod.
The vacuum hose has been disconnected from the ERG valve.
Just pushed it back on and the drive home tonight should give me an indication if this caused my smoking problem or if it is something else on the system.

Thanks again for your help Malcolm
