W210 Locking & Keys

I'm a bit confused about the red & green lights on the mirror & drivers door.

When I lock or unlock the car both lights flash for about ten seconds after the action. What I'm not clear on is what do the respective lights indicate & should they both be flashing at once?

I have one key that works and one that doesn't & have tried resynchronising as per directions in other threads for the one that doesn't work, the batteries are new but still no joy - any thoughts?

Finally the key that does work (also new batteries) only does so from very close to the car. If I aim at the mirror from the doors or the front of the car it works fine but from the boot or just a couple of yards away it no good. Is this normal?

Thanks

the 2 lights flashing together is supposed to indicate that your remote battery is low. Normally green flashes for open and red for locked.
If you've changed the batteries then the signal is still weak for some reason.
Check the remotes with a digital camera to see if they are working at all. The normal fault is with the button and Anyweb has posted a very good "how to fix" in the diy section.

Would this car not be a W124, due to the age and also due to the locking and alarm lights. I thought that W210s started in 1996 and had the three button IR & RF key ?

Thanks for for the responses guys. I know this is a lame question but how do you use a digital camera to do the test ? The car is an early W210 first registered Oct 1995. The key has only two buttons one to release ignition key and one to operate the locking/alarm/immobiliser

Cheers

The very early 210's were DAS 2 cars and had the single large round button with the flip out key. The later cars had the three button electronic key (DAS 3)

Turn on your camera and look at the cameras screen while oiperating the button on the key at the cameras lens. You should see a white light indicating a signal.
