W210 Locking problem

I have a E320 Avantgarde 1996. When I lovk or un lock the car I get both the red and gree lights in the mirror and door lock flashing simultaniously. Why does this happen and how can I fix it. Many thanks

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
I take the car is still starting ok?
When the red and green lights flash it normally indicates (on my car anyway) that the fob batteries are flat, do not think just because the fob is still locking/unlocking the car that they are ok.
In my experience of this alarm system this type of key fob rarely needs re-synching, I have only had to do this twice in 6 and half years, once with a new key, and when i left my spare fob without batteries for 2 weeks. The re-synching for this type of key is as follows:-
Aim the transmitter of the remote control at the reciever in the interior mirror and press transmitter button briefly twice.
Turn the key in the steering lock to position 2 within about 30 seconds.
The lock system is then operational.
Exact quote from handbook.

Hi Andy, thanks for the info. The car starts fine and the car locks and unlocks. I replaced the batteries today at my MB dealer, but I still get the red and green lights flashing at the same time. They stay flashing for about 30 seconds? Any thoughts? Cheers John

Do both the red and green LED's work on both the mirror and the door?
According to my handbbook the L.E.D.'s flashing together indicates remote batteries need replacing.
Have you done as Malcolm (Television) says regarding disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes as this maybe required to clear the fault within the alarm system.

I have disconected the battery for about 10 mins and re-connected followed by a re-sync. Bothe the lights in the door and mirror flash together. I wonde if the remote is defective and drawing current , thereby draining the batteries. I have checked that the IR only works when I press the button (aimed it into my phone camera). When the batteries were changed the red light on the remote flashed, but now it doesn't. This happened with the last set of batteries I bought a couple of weeks ago. I don't like locking the car as I only have one remote. Cheers John

Hi,
It does sound like it could be a knackered key fob.
If you look in the D.I.Y. section there is a post on how to repair these keys.
Get yourself a spare key before you attempt repair as if the key goes completely U/S you won,t be able to start the car.
New key approx. £80-90 from MB, do not be tempted too buy one off of e-bay as it won,t work and cannot be "RE" programmed for another car.
