Hi folks, this afternoon, whilst driving a few miles home and stuck in a queue I was suddenly aware of what sounded like a 'song thrush' stuck under my bonnet....
On inspection this evening I think this rather musical squeeking is coming from one of the pulley belt wheels on the power-steering-pump side of the engine. I know its not the Air Con as this squeek carries on regardless of whether the aircon is on or not. Ive checked the power steering fluid level and thats fine -the same level as it was last service and nice and clean too:). Any ideas what this might be.. is it just a case of getting the WD40 out on one of the pulley wheels? The squeek disappears above around 12-1500 rpm.

Cheers

S class
Most probably the idler/ tensioner pulley that is chirping ..and does no harm to change it as a matter of routine along with a new belt

2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
As above, the idler ass can give problems

Hi,
Changed the tensioner with the belt, solved the problem. I would change the tensioner first (most likely cause) they had problems with the early design.

Hi folks, Thanks for all the advice, I need to book the beast in to get new drop links and AR bushes, so will add a belt and tensioner pulley to the list - the squeeks gone again, but no doubt will return as is the way of these things!
