Hi, I have carried out a search but cannot pinpoint my problem which is:

I noticed that when I put my key fob in the ignition, it was slow to respond, ie it was taking longer than usual to be able to turn the key. Then the Keyfob remote locking stopped working. So I replaced batteries. Now the keyfob works perfect when unlocking/locking the car. But now it takes much longer to switch the car on, like a delay...and I am praying it turns everytime. Any ideas? Yes I have searched the Forum!
THANKS

There was a change in the ignition locks from 31-05-97 where the key went over to the DAS system,, I take it that yours is the plastic non bladed type.
On these keys the batteries play no part in the starting as the power comes from the transponder coil around the ign switch

hi, thanks for reply. yes mine is the non bladed type so i am assuming that my merc has the DAS system. so do you think the transponder coil could be at fault...
how do i get to this? and is this a dealer job?
i have also priced out a key from the dealer costing £193. since i only have one key i will have to buy another anyway but i just dont know where to start with the ignition coil...so far when i use the car it is taking me a long time for the key to work and it is rather frustrating...is there a way of checking if the coil is faulty or if it is definitely the key? any advice welcomed.

It will not be the coil,,either the key or the switch, there is no way to work out what one till you have the key
