I would appreciate any pointers of what is the source of the suspension "creaking" noise experienced on my 1998 W210 E240?

The noise only comes from the passenger side rear suspension area and only ever when pulling away from a standstill or from near walking pace. At all other times there is no sound at all? Strangely this also only tends to occur after about half/one hour of driving - so I wonder if it is linked to heat from the exhaust which is in that area also?

I have sprayed all the joints/bushes with silicon spray and now have also greased every joint with a lithium grease but the "creak" is still there?

Thanks for any help

On a W124 there's a bush at the base of the hub. I had a 280 that creaked and it turned out to be this. It's #8 in this diagram:

I suspect the W210 is very similar

Hi

Thanks for the advice - would you say its a simple DIY job to replace or would I be better off at an Indie?

If your problem is that bush, then, no, it's a very difficult job for a DIYer. The bush is a very tight fit in the hub, and needs to be pressed out, or, for special (expensive!) tools to be used

Check to make sure that is the problem. If it is the problem, get a price from an independent.

Same problem

I had the same problem on my 230TE, just this week. I sprayed all joints with silicon spray, but it made no difference. I then sprayed the anti roll bar clamp rubber and after 10 minutes of driving it has gone and the car is now silent. It is difficult to get to the clap to spray it though, as it is high above the suspension.

Hi

Thanks for the advice. I have spayed and greased everything in sight !!! but the creak is still there....

I will have another go on the anti roll bar clamp as I think I could loosen this via the two allen bolts and get more lubricant around the bush.

If this doesn't cure it it looks like I will need to send to an Indie.
