I have a problem with the rear view mirror in my 1999 E320 estate (pre-face lift). I have just got it back from the body shop having had the left hand side re-sprayed after some local artists re-modelled it for me, and the mirror is now very loose - there is about an inch of lay in it, and it vibrates when on less smooth road surfaces.

Now, how likley is it that the body shop casues the damage (I am not absolutely sure it wasn't like this before, as I don't touch it that often!), and how easy is it to put right. Anyone got any ideas?

BTW it is an auto-dimming mirror ...

Thanks for your help.

If the whole mirror including the bottom mounting is lose, then the 3 screws need to be tightened up from behind the triangle on the inside.

If the mirror is flopping around on the bas,I suspect that some one has walked into it and broken it.

It's the latter. I've just taken the back off the mirror and found a very poor attempted fix. Garage botch job. I will have strong words - they should have told me/ replaced it, given the amount they charge the insurance company...

I think it is better that you let them replace it, MB can be difficult to get some part spares on mirrors as they seem to only want to supply the complete thing, and that is not cheap.
