Both my rear window regulators have failed in the last couple of weeks, the motors are ok, but the regulators can´t be fixed. I´ve ordered 2 new regulators and will be fitting next week. The motor swops over easily from one regulator to the other but the question I have is this:

Are there limit switches in the motors? When the motor is fitted is there any set up to do for the top and bottom limits? Or will it be ok just fitting the motor in the position it is currently in? The windows were both about 3 inches down when they failed.

Many thanks, Pete.

There are not any limit switches, the electronics sense the resistance after the window has gone to its travel limit and cuts the power, The regulators have probably failed due to the glass being too tight a fit in the runners, try using a silicone spray on the runners to allow the glass to slide more freely.

After you have fitted the new parts you need to reset the 'auto close' function..........send the window fully up (or down) and keep the button pressed for a further 5 seconds approx, the send the window to the fully down position and again, keep the down button held in for 5 seconds.

Do the same on the other window.

This will depend on the age of your 210, you may have to hold the window switches for 10 seconds in the fully down position and then 10 seconds fully up position, it is the same procedure that has to be done to the windows and sunroof when you disconnect the battery.

The regulator is held on with rivetts (spelling?). To attach the new one you will need a gun and a selection of different sized rivetts. Hope this helps as I did it and was expecting bolts like every other make of car.

Cheers Panason1c, I hoped it would be an easy swop over, going to collect the parts tomorrow (hopefully!). How do you find the Merc dealers over here? A new one has just opened near me, and so far seems to be so much more switched on than the others around.

Thanks for the other replies, unfortunately rivet didn´t help me in the dealer! I had to get across what I mean´t and was taught a new word - Gripas!! So, I´ll try not to forget them when I pick up the regulators.

Pete.
