W210 reversing lights switch

Help,I can,t find how to access the reversing light switch on this otherwise delightful car.The lights did come on briefly by applying light rearward pressure on the gear selector knob but this doesn,t work anymore.I have removed the wood trim from above the selector mechanism and can see two plugs attatched to it but can't see how to get at the switch.The rest of the circuit checks out fine as far as supply and continuity go.I apologise if this has been covered before and any help would be much appreciated.

This has been covered within the last 3 months, the whole center consol has to come off. found the tread.
