W210 2001 E240 Avantgarde Estate. I've had this for 6 years, had 7000 miles when purchased and it's been a fantastic vehicle for a famiy of 5…except the rust. I had a shunt a year ago resulting in replacement of the hood and font bumber assembly, air con radiator and repair to wing. This was well done but I notice afterwards the degree of rust forming on other arches and all doors and looking through the forum I realised what a problem it is with the W210. Eventually rang Mercedes earlier this year and they directed me straight to their Dutton Forshaw bodyshop where paint thickness was measured and photographs taken. There were errors in measuring, photographs were blurred so Merc declined part of the claim and after 3 months delay and after some minor discussion they agreed to replace all four doors, front nearside wing, repair both rear arches and higher on the rear quarters and repair tailgate. They wanted a contribution of 20% of the door work from me (about £800) which I agreed and after a month in the bodyshop and a few niggles about door assembly I have my car back looking (almost) like new. Small problems with the door re- assembly has resulted in me buying a new door drip and fixings and I'm currently trying to buy the fixings for the front of the offside skirt which DF have forgotten to fit or lost. It's easier for me to buy the parts and do myself rather than trek over. I've conclude that I need a part manual for this vehicle and also a workshop manual to see how it all goes together - can anyone help or direct me?
