Hi all,
i have a E300 W210 1995 model with the older style W124 engine (Diesel).
in december i had a problem with the car where it wouldnt start, sounded like there was a problem with the fuel gtting to the pump... however as i had the problem at the oad side i did what most people would do and called the RAC

The bloke came out poked about then did what every RAC man has done with every car i have had problems with... sprayed a but load of eazy start in.

anyway got the car towed to a garage and got the car started and the problem sorted (took a lot longer than it should)

anyway since i got it back (the car) when i start it its qute smokey... and sounds like one of the rods or something is running right ... but once the engine has heated up it sounds fine, and runs as good as she always has...

im wondering if anyone can suggest any solution?
could it be the spark plug/glow plugs? or is it a more serious problem with the engine ?

Glow plug failure and possible fuel leak. Do a search on this forum. Not big problems, although the glow plugs can be tricky to remove.

yes i agree with parrot of doom. glow plugs would be a good start. and check for fuel leaks or air getting into the system: replace fuel filters & O seals, check for wear on fuel pipes, and if you have a good budget, you could consider reconditioning the fuel injectors as one or more may have a low compression...
