i currently drive a 1993 w124 200 te and i am extremely pleased with the build quality and ride but it is a tad underpowered (as i was warned by site members prior to buying it) i am going to upgrade it this summer and i have been looking at the w210 estates . i would appreciate any feedback on this to enable me to make an educated purchase. you know, faults, best engine size, and stuff . so lay it on me folks thanks

I'd suggest buying a 1996 W124 E280. That way you get the same build quality but with a torquey six-cylinder engine

A W210 is a different kettle of fish altogether. If I were to buy one, though, I'd get a post-facelift E320 CDi

Depends how you want to play it. The best 210 in my opinion is the 320CDi and the cheapest to buy is the 2 litre/240 petrol.

The 210 is a totally different drive to the 124, so try one or two. The Avantgarde is the equivalent of the 124 sportline, which I wish I had bought when I was running a 124 (Unfotunately they were as rare ar hens teeth).

They are not as solidly built but you win just about everywhere else. with much more advanced engines etc Technology had moved on dramatically when the 124 was replaced with the 210.

If your concerned about fuel consumption buy the CDi or alternately if you are a petrol fan the 320 is an excellent engine.

A well specced example takes a little finding but well worth the effort and worth paying a few pennies more for.

Finally I would recommend that you try the 320CDi, you will be amazed at the reponsiveness, power and frugality. Who daid you can't have your cake and eat it!

;) I have one of the last 210`s,a Jan 03 E220cdi auto estate with the "pack car " specification.Only problems to date have been elctronic, apart from a failed rear wash/wipe.
Fuel consumption is excellent with 50+ on trips to Spain, fully laden and 40 otherwise.
Ride is excellent and build quality better than any other modern vehicle `i`ve sat in.Feel good factor is excellent too.
I would certainly recomend that you look at one.

As long as you go into it with you eyes oen regarding the classic W210 issues.

I bought my 300TD estate and a very good price, has some nice kit and drove very well.

Had some rust issues which i got sorted for £600 or so,

It had full MB service history and is not due next service for another 8k miles.

Needs new disk and pads all round on next service but will do myself for less then £150 including fluid change

I am very happy with the car, its the perfect vehicle for us, with a 15 month old and probably another one in the near future, cant beat it.

I have a local specialest Mainly Merc just 2 miles away so I will not be stuck for problems.

320CDI would be nice especially a newer one 2000 on but they were just a it too much money.

Dont rule out a 300td or a 220cdi.

If you are on a budget you dont need to spend any more than £5k to get a nice car, not mint but nice.

I would try and hold out for a face lift model if you budget can stretch that far.
