...so thats exactly what happens. When i put the car into drive or even 2 or 3 i get a bit of a jolt forward. Now the car is 96, its my first automatic car and i have just bought it. One guy told me that this is normal for a car of that age but somebody else said that the gearbox is on the way out! suggestions? It's 2,000 miles away from a service at 140,000 miles I might just drive by quikfit and bring it to the MB dealer and get them to do one of them B services including change the ATF fluid.

I'd be tempted to look more towards the propshaft and diff mountings tbh. It isn't normal for the car to do this.

Don't go to Kwikfit, they're useless. Don't go to the dealer either. Tell us where you are and see if theres a MB specialist near you.

It would appear that the "bump" is actually the the car pulling onto the brakes. I think i will have to inspect them. The car brakes creak when pedal pressure is gently released and the parking brake doesn't do much unless its put on quite hard. Investigation is required....
