When accelerating hard, like when joining a motorway. I can feel a vibration in the rear, just like a wheel is out of balance. If I let the power off it goes away instantly. I suspect the drive train, what would be the usual cause or known problems. I've just hit 90k. W210 CDi Estate.

I would say engine mounts throwing the drive train out of line
or maybe a propshaft UJ / center bearing

Thanks for the help, the vibration feels just like a prop shaft rubber mount but it's at wheel speed. I know my rear sub frame mount are in poor condition so may be it's connected? I think I'll take it to the Indy in Bristol. I'm too busy with work to spend all weekend crawling around under cars.

From personal exprience, If your rear subframe mounts are worn to the point of allowing the frame to rock under engine torque it is almost certain that a replacement rear UJ will fail in no time.

As Malcolm has pointed out slight deviation from the as manufactured line up of transmission output flange, propshaft and diff will cause exagerated stresses on the drive line parts, a sagging engine does the front one in and sub frame woes kill the back one.
Do get the sub frame mounts sorted, it will give you much more pleasure to drive it once its done. Mine (a 124) got engine and sub frame mounts, all four shocks, the prop ujs and centre bearing replaced for its 19th birthday and has been an absolute pleasure to drive since, it did cost the best part of 800 dabs though.
