Hi all, for a few weeks now I have been experiencing issues when I insert my key into ignition switch to start car, absolutely nothing happens then sometimes if I leave the key in for a few seconds the steering lock can be heard and everything is fine, on certain occasions especially on cold mornings I have to remove and reinsert key a few times before the car will start after this the key will work fine all day. I could use a bit of advice of what could be the at fault. I have been trying to find information online but for my particular model esl and eis problems seem to be rare. I really can't afford to take my car to the dealers so any advice on how to resolve this issue would be welcome.
Thanks

Have you tried a new fob battery?

I do appreciate you dont want to use a dealer, but how about a merc indy.
I think you would need codes read as something will be showing open circiut. making assumptions on the fault may be more expensive (running round buying parts and fitting them) than having the car looked at (done once).
It could be a remote issue, a relay issue, an EIS issue, a CPS issue so on and so forth.
Where are you based. Someone may recommend if you go
down that route.

Both keys? if only one, get your key checked, it is working voltage inducted by 'a coil' component (not batteries). Some videos found on youtube...

Could be EIS problem too.

Hi I have tried both keys and I'm based in Bolton, and I have had codes read but no faults are showing, codes were read by an independent merc. Specialist. I personally think it's the esl sticking as my car has now done 160,000 miles.

I think it may well be an EIS problem, I think the way forward and easiest option is to remove the EIS and get it tested/repaired, I have seen companies advertising online. Thanks.
