Hi folks, I have a problem with the APS50 fitted to my W211 E-Class (Late 2003) I havr the Nokia 6110i car kit and CD changer factory fit options.

The APS unit is not operational:

Dial Lamps do not light on the unit at any time.
On switch-on the Mercedes flash screen is displayed for about 1 minute and then it switches off. The unit is running software V2.0 (Nav CD set 2003)

The CD Multi changer will not eject when pressing the button.

The Nokia 6110i car phone is non-operational (though attempts to charge when the unit is switched on)

I have checked the fused FS026 and FS028 both of which are ok. I have removed both fuses for 15 minutes to hopefully reset the unit to no avail.

Any ideas? IT looks like a software problem to me. Is there a reset sequence? Is this a known problem? Many thanks in anticipation.

Best regards,

Justin.

many similar probs reported in the US. Normally a software upgrade fixes them.

APS 50 Result

I visited Mercedes Direct (supplying Dealer) at Caterham today to look at this problem, a helpfull technician said that their elecrical man was on holiday, bur arranged for me to visit Gatwick and have the car looked at. I visited Gatwick at lunchtime to look into this problem, very helpfull staff took the car for 90 minutes to run diagnostic checks and said the the Audio Gateway was not responding. They also did the SBC Software upgrade at the same time! They washed and hoovered the car and returned it saying they would need it for three days to fix the problem and could not take the car in for 4 weeks... Wot no radio/CD/Nav/Phone for 4 weeks?

Well, curiosity got the better of me.... Audio Gateway? Fuse FS06? Humm, I wonder what removing the fuse and re-inserting it would do? Answer... it has fixed the problem! What every computer user knows.... reboot it, sometimes a hard reboot is required!

Spoke to Gatwick, we've left the booking open just in case, but it seems to me that sometimes the obvious solution evades Mercedes technicians.

All I can say is that Hitesh Parmar is a service Team Leader with very good customer service skills, read the customer requirement, explained the service report in great detail, this is rare in the Mercedes world indeed! Shame he was so let down by the workshop.

Perhaps if Mercedes made more reliable cars the workshops would not be so overloaded....

Food for thought, bottom line Gatwick will get the service business for my Wife's A-Class as my experience at Orpington Mercedes has been disasterous, but that's another story....
