I have question concerning charge battery: there are two batteriesin my car (W211, E350T, 2006);
1). if they both need to be charged time to time when the car has not been drive for months?
2). if I can charge the system battery (in the trunk) without disconnet the battery? or the battery must be disconnected and taken out?
3). Can I charge the batteries by connecting my charge to the jump start connectors (in the hood)?

You are correct in saying that you have 2 batteries, the rear battery is the main one and the small one under the bonnet is only for the SBC brakes.

The main one that needs charging is the rear one,do not use jump starts, you have too many electrics on the car and easily damaged. A trickle charger is the best way rather than an automatic one. The car has a lower consumption when it is locked, 4 weeks is about the max that it will go without charging. you can ignore the front one for 2 months at least.

Hope this helps. Malcolm

I don't believe you need to, as long as the ignition is kept off. What you want to avoid at all cost is a spike of voltage (as you connect/disconnect charger) going through any of the ECUs etc
Disconnecting the battery may bring in new problems!! Sure others will be along soon to confirm/say otherwise

As above, no as long as carabind says, start off low, then increase, auto are not good as the go to max and settle down.

JamesMR,
I strongly recommend you invest in a modern trickle charger that can be permanently wired into your car.
CTEK make a series of switched mode units (sold by www.hamiltonclassic.co.uk/).
I have one, the leads of which , with a socket, are wired permanently across my battery (and the socket is positioned somewhere convenient in the engine bay). When I park the car, I open the bonnet and plug in the trickle charger, partially close the bonnet and leave the system permanently on trickle charge. When I want to drive the car, I switch off the charger, unplug the leads, close the bonnet and drive away. The car never fails to start.

Allan, any chance of re doing the link, for the source of switched chargers.

It does not work.

talking of switched trickle chargers, I have a draper trickle charger which I used on other cars that I used infrequently - to aid ease of use, I simply put a cigar lighter adapter on it. So when I parked the car up, all I needed to do is plug it in and and that's it. (it is reliant on the cigar ligher working when the ignition is off). esasier than mesing about under the bonnet

Where are the jump start connectors located (under the hood)?
I can’t seem to find them on my W211.
Is it safe to jump start a W211 E-Class?

I couldn't find any either. Can't understand why they got rid of them but they seem to.
I had to give a jump start and ended up dismantling the boot to get at the battery. Hardly ideal.
