The analogue clock on my 2004/ 54 plate W211 270Cdi (not command)Stopped a few days ago. I went into the digital time/date function and altered the hours first, pressed the reset button and found that the time just flicks back to the time that the clocks have stopped at. Two days ago it was 10.23am, yesterday 10.24 and today 10.25am! The date function is also not changing as it should each day. I can't see any bulbs blown or any other issues.

Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated. TIA

Hello and welcome.

This has never been asked before, short of removing the fuse for a few seconds, I think that it will have to be replaced

very odd. It sounds like its thrown a wobbly. Can happen with electronics and like other electical gizmos it may just need a reboot.
So, I'm with Malcolm, pull a fuse or disconnect the battery.

Thanks for the advice gents. Were it not for such foul weather (or a tidier garage!) I'd be outside having a play now. I'll post when I've had a play to update.

Beaucoupnice - Lol, It is a bit out of this world, good for staying young, 1 minute of time per day!

Thanks Malcolm. Very nice to find such helpful folk here. This is my first Mercedes and have to say I really like the car despite this little niggle. Fear I am a MB convert for life!

I've not had the car long and have just realised that I don't have the radio instructions so will have to contact the previous owner or, if no joy there try a MB dealer for the radio code before going for the battery disconnect route.

Maybe I'm being a bit thick, but looking at the paperwork in the fusebox it is not especially clear which fuse has the instrument cluster running on it. Any ideas on that one??

Thanks again

First there is no code for the radio,as coded for life once from new. This is MB info, if there was a code, MB would give it to you FOC

I have been looking for info on the clock but not found it yet, still looking

Thanks Malcolm

You are indeed a fount of knowledge. I'll go for a battery disconnect tomorrow if you don't have any joy on fuses. As you say, if the radio did end up needing a code then FOC from MB is no great hurdle to overcome.

Thanks again

Do have a look here in the morning as I will check the fuse boxes tonight and see if its easier to remove a fuse to try and re set it

OK I have found it, the clock is fed from the instrument cluster,by pulling fuse F52 it will remove all power to the cluster and clock, leave it 5 mins and replace it

Hi Malcolm,

I've had a bit of a day today so I've only just been able to take a look. Slight problem, I don't have a fuse F52! I may have fed you duff info as I did not mention that it was an estate. My E class has one fuse box on the drives side of the dash (opening compartment reached only when the door is open) which has fuses F021 to F042. It also has a fuse box in the boot, on the nearside, just behind the wheel arch. This second box contains fuses F01 to F020. I have the sheet of paper from the dashboard fusebox but this does not list anything that I take to be covering the instrument cluster. Sorry to be a pain!

Best wishes

This fuse is in the car fuse box under the dash

If 1-20 are in the boot, 21-42 are in the dash, 52 will be in the big fuse box under the bonnet by the driver's side hinge. Every merc I've ever had or seen (inc my previous and current E class) has one there so I'd be surprised if yours didn't.

Well.... a bit of an anti climax in the end.... Today the clock suddenly started to work again with no intervention by me! All functions back and able to set it to the correct time and date!

Happy in one way, but a bit disappointed that after all the help you guys gave me to find the fuse that pulling it was not actually required. As the car is new to me it remains to be seen whether it will drop out again. If it does I will know which fuse to pull to try to get it back sooner. One big plus is that I am not faced with a costly repair to the instrument cluster. I'll be sure to post if anything strange happens again.

Thanks gents for all of your help. I'm very pleased to have found this forum and will be sure to visit often.

Best wishes

David

Sorry to bump this post but am having a similar issue with our 06 C Class digital clock not allowing any adjustment.

it 'stopped' at some random time around a week or so ago, and will not allow any adjustment to be made in the normal way - it also prevented the current fuel / speed / time elapse function from working at the same time?

I have today (not snowing or brass monkeys today for a change!) played around with the thing, trying to re set the time etc, pulling fuses and finally disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes to see if this would "reset" the clock and allow it to work normally again.

the clock has now reverted to 00:00 and again will not allow any manual adjustment - it will count up / down, but as soon as you release the + / - button on the steering wheel, it returns to 00:00 again.

the date, although it can be adjusted, is also not advancing - pressumably because it thinks that time is standing still!, and i have not driven it anywhere yet to see if the current trip computer (or since restart either) is functioning correctly, although i somehow doubt it.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

Paul.
