I've been very busy recently however I did find time last Friday to get my W211 into the garage for the crankshaft sensor recall that is affecting some of the V6 diesels. There was also an ECU upgrade recall that wasn't on the letter however it was all done at the same time. Driving this week up to Yorkshire I got an engine warning light on but no error messages so my partner took it into the dealership in Wakefield whilst I was at work. It appears that the new crankshaft sensor had failed in less than a week and 1K miles. Considering that when it fails you lose power and cannot restart (according to the dealers) then I'm pleased we had it fixed before the drive home yesterday.
I've had a few other issues with it in the last month of weeks including some very strange tyre wear. I will put some pictures up of that as it quite dangerous IMHO.

That's not good Blobcat, but then you do drive in a 'spirited' fashion :D Whats the mileage at now on the 211?

Just went over 52K yesterday  I'm currently doing 1K a week which explains why I've not been around lately.

I don't mind the recall it is the failure of the new unit after less than a week that concerns me. Leave well alone IMHO

Those with SBC hate the re calls, noise gets worse after each re call,, now they have a 10 year guarantee mine is going to fail 2 weeks before the time is up :D

The new one failing Blobcat is a normal occurrence in the electronic trade,, they only cast £47 keep a spare in your pocket

hi, i took mine in for for some work and at the time was told about the recall's, one of which was a software upgrade, as my car is brabus tunned i asked the dealer to make sure this upgrade would not confict with the tunning,......... when they had fininshed i was driving out of the garage when the car lost all its power and would not rev the engine sufficiantly to change gears, i went straight back for the them to tell me they will have to order another brabus tunning kit..... NOT HAPPY at the time. I am now wonderring whether this is good or bad, as do i benefit in anyway by getting a new kit installed and does anyone know what i should look out for when they fit it?

crankshaft sensor and other recalls

Being a newbie I'm embarassed to ask this, but does one automatically get informed about recalls? Or do you have to be proactive?

I have a 2005 (55) E 320 CDI (V6), W211.

Does anyone know of a DIY repair manual for this model?

Any info greatly appreciated

Hello David and welcome,, if it is a safety item then you will be informed via the post, other things the dealers do when its in for service and the chances are they would not tell you what they have done.

There are no books for these cars,, CDs on Ebay but very hard to use if you can get them to work that is

There is also a crankshaft bearing issue on the V6 Diesels making a knocking sound so listen out....

Dealers are doing LOADS of them.

I would take it in and ask them to check the vin number on the system. The letter I had had the correct VIN but wrong reg number.
