Hi,

I hope someone can help? ive just bought a new ctek XS800 charger for my E200, with optional cigar lighter connection. (Question) if i connect the charger via the cigar connection will the ignition have to be turned on. If it can be connected this way, it would save the hassle of connecting via the boot.

Thanks for your prompt reply,

The reason for my question is, will the charger be able to charge the battery with the ignition of.
It may seem a daft question, but i just did not know,i think i may recall a question like this on the forums a while back, and the answer was that the ignition needed to be on. Obviously if it does not thats great, once again thanks for your reply.

Its worth having a special socket, the wake up circuit will stay awake with the key in, and this will use more power than that charger would put back. It would not be that hard to have the cigar lighter circuit changed, if that would be more convenient than having one in the boot.

It is not good practice to leave the EIS keys in

The charger cannot charge from that socket with the ign off, only in key 1,but not good

Thanks Malcolm,

Is the best idea to connect in the boot, like a lot of owners the car has not had much use for the last 2 months. Ctek provided a plug for the cigar lighter at extra cost and it seems now a waste of money, never mind we all learn Malcolm.

MB do a charging point kit for in the boot for all MB's but any garage good with electrics could fit one with ease, A bosch service center is good. The Ctec is the best

Thank you so much Malcolm,

I will ask our local MB dealer about that kit, any idea about cost and is it straight forward to fix it your self.
