W211 E230 Ignition or DAS problem ?

MB E230, 97 on R plate.
Plastic electronic key. Ignition will not engage (key does nothing except remote CL etc).
My worry is getting a new key from MB and then finding its the DAS ignition module at fault. I can get a secondhand DAS module and matched key but want to know whether this is "paired" to the ecu and whether I would have to get a matched ecu as well

Yes the key wont turn in the ignition.

Your car is a 210 for starters.

The ignition switch is only for your car and is only available from a dealer. You will need a green key to and someone with a Star to code it.

It is best left to be fitted by someone who knows what they are doing as it can be easily messed up.

That doesnt really help me tho, as I might as well scrap it rather than take it to an MB specialist, its done 250,000 and rusting bad, the fact that its got 11months mot is its only saving grace.

I know that DAS units are sold from scrappers, most I have rung have sold out, so I would like to know whether the DAS unit is matched to the ECU or not, if it isnt, its an easy replacement and will cost me £45.

Yes they are matched. To the key too. It won't work believe me.

Your ONLY option is to get a switch and green key from a dealer. You may also need a new key too.
