We are potentially about to 'inherit' (long story) a particular 2003 W211 E270CDI Avantgarde with all mod cons (pano roof, dynamic seat thingies, air suspension, 18" AMG's, PDC, etc., etc.). There are also a number of faults, including turbo issues (probably leaking seals based on posts on this forum) that require to be remedied. We do not have full details of the faults at this point, though an MB authorised service centre wants a significant sum to remedy, though an indy reckons it will cost around 20% of what MB want. The car has been maintained mostly by the MB authorised service centre to date.

I have tried to search for information on this board relating to E270 ownership, and whilst I have found some mention of various faults, I was hoping that members could perhaps share briefly their problems during ownership, and anything that we ought to be on the lookout for. Anything that you could share would be greatly appreciated, and apologies if this has already been answered and my mediocre search capabilities have failed you.

Cheers,

P.

Hi.
Not much to tell really. Ive had mine (a late 04 model) for 2 years now. The only problems have been some vibration, some of which is just inherent to this engine which is not the smoothest bag of bolts around, and some cured by new engine mounts. Aside from that, just nearing 50k miles and no issues at all. Still very happy with it.
Economy and performance is good so no complaints.

Hi JBerks,

Thanks for your reply. From the relative dearth of postings specific to the E270, it appears to be generally reliable overall. Still a bit weary of those air struts though, mighty expensive to replace here in sunny Malaysia.

Cheers,

P.

Had my 04 plate E270 for 4 months and have put 10k miles on it. Purchased from Main Dealer with 24k miles and one owner. Had turbo (sticking wastegate) and one folding mirror replaced under warranty. Car is great, get a genuine 38 mpg (motorway miles) and its no slouch if you boot it. The 80 litre tank is a godsend and I love the pan roof and heated seats. Have just had a dash message to put 1 litre of oil in at next refuel so looks like the engine uses approx a litre every 10k miles (anyone know what oil is used in this engine?). lWould have liked to get the V6 320 CDI but couldn't afford it at the time.
