Hi all,

Tryed to start car today but doesnt even crank!

It comes up with a few errors, such as, "Brake defective", "Electric consumers not functioning", "Braking distance increased", "SRS defective" and " ESP defective".

Anyone know what could be wrong?

Its a 2004 e270 cdi W211

Thanks,

Digi

breakdown recovery guy came and said the battery was flat, so jump started it and it started first time. he checked the voltage and it was at 3.8 i think, and he says that the alternator is working (ie, charging) but must not be holding charge so need a new battery.

Should I buy a new battery?

You need to check the drain on a 211.

you also need to check the battery split box.

The above are the 2 known faults on you car,, if the car was fine the day before then something is taking it down a current check when sleeping should not be more than 40 ma

i mostly drive it at weekends, so dont really want to have to jump start it every week! Car is just over 4 years old, is it normal for a batt to go at this age?

It is possible but we replaced the battery on a 2003 211, only have the same issue a week later.
Ours was the switch bar on the dash (the one with the hazard light switch). It was fine for 20-30 mins then suddenly woke up and drained the battery.
