Hi all

I have a questions about the w211 front lights. I'm trying to understand the different options that the car came in. At this moment I'm guessing that they are non-xenon, xenon and bi xenon! Is this true?

So far I've thought that my car did not have xenons, although it has projector headlamps. How can I tell for sure what type of lights I have. I must admit, when then are on, they look a lot more 'whiter' than the yellow parking lights. Is this because of the projectors?

Someone told me that you can simply replace non xenon lights for xenon lights. Is this true?

Cheers

If you have them there will be a high voltage warning on the rear ot the lamps.

You could also check with the VIN as to what options the car came with from new.

I think the code is 618

Yes the code is 618. Just been looking up mine and it's a bit confusing. The Russian site lists 618 as "halogen lamp unit with high beam/low beam/fog light (r.h. traffic) (с 01.04.1970).
However, according to the MB price list, 618 is 618/619 Headlamps – Bi-Xenon with headlamp wash, dynamic range adjustment and cornering lights. The last 2 bits are new, its the bi-xenon and wash that are important.
Basically, and I don't think this has changed, the classic and elegance had standard Halogen and the Avantgarde and new sport models have Bi-Xenon.
The difference is obvious when they are on, especially when they come on. Halogen are on instantly whereas xenon flicker and brighten over the first half second or so. Plus, headlight wash was standard with xenons but not halogens (though it could be an extra).

Mine has projector lights too and they appear very white and very bright. To be honest most new cars do. You can tell Xenon (apart from the sticker) because they have a very blue-white light. Trust me, if you have ever been in a car with Xenon lights you will see the difference. They are excellent

You can buy bulbs that "use xenon technology" from Halfords, but that doesn't give you proper xenon lights, just a blue white light that frankly doesn't work well. I fitted them on my Audi and they blew on average about once every other week and eventually melted the wiring to the headlight.
