Hi Guy`s, my windscreen washer stopped working the other day, i changed the pump (changed the black one but there is also a larger white one on mine) which i assume is something to do with the headlight washers, anyway I get the noise from pumps when the stalk is pressed but no fluid just a dribble from the jets?
Any ideas/help/thoughts would be very much appreciated

I have read some posts on the forums to the effect that the tubes/jets block up particularly where the jets are heated and cheap or incorrect washer fluid is used.

Some sort of wax forms inside the tube or jets.

I assume you have checked this?

Someone with more knowledge than me will I’m sure be along shortly.

Robin

What Headhurts says. Also, not sure about Mercs in general, but on the Vauxhalls I've had, the pump sucks through a rubber strainer/filter which gets blocked with gunge due to cheap or no screen wash and causes the problem you have.

Is there any particular way to clean the tubes? I have tried cleaning the jets with a needle and they seem ok, obviously not sure what the inside of the jets are like though...

I used to run a couple of tabs of Milton through mines a couple of times a year, seemed to keep things clear but as yours are already blocked I'm not sure it would e the same

It's what you use to sterilise baby's bottles ;)

If the pump comes out of the bottle easily, remove it & attack the bottle with a hose pipe. '

You mean the pump? It`s a new pump just fitted...Is there some sort of filter on the rubber grommet that the pump sits in?

vinegar is a great, very cheap lime scale remover, you should use at home in the bathroom. Much less abuse on the furniture then the bottles of useless chemicals that changes the colour of the taps, rots the ceramic finish and doesn't do plastic any favours.

I've never found anything that's really hard to remove other than crude / lime scale blocking the waster jets, although you can get a gulpe of congealed legionella / stagnant washer fluid that won't help.

top up with water from a soft water area or using a water softener, the difference is quit incredible

Thanks Botus,
Finally managed to have a better look inbetween showers today and traced the problem back to the washer jets themselves... Not sure how to remove them though....I have removed the plastic cowling that covers them but can`t seem to free the jets...Any advice would be great...They do seem to have electrical elements to them which i also am struggling to remove....

W215 CL500 Motorway Queen; W251 R320L Familybenz, S211 E320 Avg Designo Edition now sadly missed.
Unplug the heater wires and the nozzles should come out with a quarter turn.

Really, doesn`t look like they will turn, are they different on the facelift version? (which mine is)

I've just been through similar with Emily's Fiat, changed the pump more than once with eBay specials. Replaced it again the other day with a known OE second pump ..... still didn't work, pump ran but water just dribbled from the nozzles. Turned out to be the blasted one way / none return valve in the pipe work was blocked! Removed it & replaced it with a joining connector & can now wash the screen of the car behind.

Hmmm, now i`m concerned it may be that and i just spent £75 on new jets!!!! Where is the none return valve so i can check? Also, just bought some merc screenwash and want to know if i can use de-ionized water or does it need to be distilled? Don`t want to use the expensive crap that comes out of the tap though......
