Ok, I've kinda asked about this before, but it was ages ago, and I really need to order the parts and get this done. My (w211) N/S front wheel bearing needs replacement. TBH, I think that sides had a whack, the wheel is slightly bent on the inside. So I'm wondering if the hub is distorted at all?

So I'm considering buying a new hub. I can get a Febi, Optimal, SKF etc. But I've read on here this could cause me ABS etc issues? I have no idea where the sensor even is! Or should I just get the bearing kit? Is it unlikely the hub is distorted?

When you spin the wheel off the gound there is a variance in the contact between the disc and the pads, this could be the disc itself however.

Thanks

It's quite possible that the spindle is bent, especially as you have the disc moving between fixed points. It would be a shame to replace the bearing and still have a shimmy!

If the hub is distorted you'll get severe brake judder as the disc mounts to the same flange.
Frankly it's unlikely it's bent.

Replacing the hub would be the better option . Your more likely to incur problems doing the bearings tbh. Depends on your skill set I suppose.

I'm not doing it myself, the guys I use are pretty good to be fair to them. Do you think this one has the sensor, would be pretty useless without I guess?

The sensor is in the strut. The pick up ring is in the hub.

Yeah, that's what I meant! But it's an odd design.

The guys I use, are great, although I do stuff myself, their changing my air filters and fuel filter now. I had a freak out trying to remove the MAF plugs, if a job like that starts badly I give up before it goes wrong. Strange, as I have done some quite large jobs in the past, I'll get the old filters be interesting to see what condition they're in, plus I said we'd see what the inside of the fuel filter looks like.
