Hi
Just new here so thanks for any help.
I have a 2004 e270 and have the black death.
Had a go at sorting it at the weekend and made a bit of a bollocks!
I screwed the solenoid of the top of the injector and screwed the puller onto the threads around the outside, I didn't go any deeper into the injector than this.
Got it all sorted and injector back in but cannot get car to start now and I've been told the injector is scrap because i took the top off. Is this the case and if so, if I get a 2nd hand injector does that need programmed etc as looking on-line they seem to have a part number and a key/engine number.

Mick.

Hello

Just new here so thanks for any help
I have a 2004 e270 with an injector leak.
Had a go at replacing the copper washer yesterday and made a bit of a bollocks.

I screwed the top of the injector/solenoid off and used these threads around the outside to pull the injector out. No problems there and replaced the washer and reassembled everything but now cannot get car to start.
I've been told that taking the top of the injector has scrapped it even though i didn't go any deeper into the injector itself, is this the case? And if i get a 2nd hand injector does it need programmed etc as I see online the injector has a part number and a key/engine number.
Thanks again

Mick

Diesel fuel lines when opened let air in. When you get air in the diesel, the engine has to crank and crank to get the diesel to the injector.
On my classic, I had a hand pump to pump the air out.

I have cracked the injector pipes and cranked the engine to bleed the air out and still no joy but yes it could be I just need to keep cranking. When I was told about me possibly destroying the inject it has got me wondering if it that rather than just air locked?.

Using slide hammer can always damage injecor, but now did you put everything back in right order? There are slight differences depending on injector age, but ther was a spring and washer? Piezo injectors are infamous of getting themself air locked, but you have solenoids I assume... not saying they are free from air lock. But it should crank 3-5 tip start round. Of course you may have gotten some dirt in.

You can put refurb injector, without coding you may get some hunting idle etc. but nothing big, you can do coding later.

Be careful working in injectors make sure battery is disconnected. Last thing you want is high pressure diesel shooting at you.

Thanks guys.
I'm told that there is a small ball bearing in the top of them and I have possibly lost this.
Anyway have the injector out again and dropping it in to a fella tomorrow for him to test.

If you have lost the tiny ball bearing, then yes, its not going to work. It will start and run without coding the new injector, but you should get the coding carried out soon after. Loads of garages can do this. Won’t cost much

Thanks for the replies fellas.
Took the injector to a diesel guy and he checked it out for me- I somehow lost the ball bearing out of it. He said he has to work on them with a magnifying glass and suction pen so thats my excuse for loosing it haha.
Anyways a 2nd hand injector at £40 and she started up straight away.
Lesson learned and I'll be more careful next time.

Tiny ball loss is very common but why I didn't suggest that, is cause you said you removed only solenoid, you should not have gone so deep in structure that ball would have been dropped...

I undid the large collar nut around the outside and lifted the top off, there was a spring and a disc/washer below this with a little stub shaft, thats as far as I went. There is an allen key head below this disc but I didn't remove/touch this.
