Hi
I was cleaning the boot of my w211 today and noted that there was a smell of damp from it yesterday.
So pulled everything out, there was condensation on the spare wheel and the little clamp that holds the battery in place had rust on it.
Just wondering if there is water getting into my boot, where is getting in, and how to fix it.
It's a 2009 one, one of the last W211, a E220CDI
Thanks all
D

When you say on the boot lid you mean the actual boot lid itself?
I think it's dry but to be honest, never checked.
I'll have a look shortly

Seals around the rear lights or trim around the boot handle can all leak.

Cheers - I'll have a look in those areas.

Although the boot handle is shrouded i.e. it is recessed under the lip of the boot lid (where the number plate lights are)?? o_O Just wondering how we get water in through there?

Down both sides of boot, in gutter next to seal, there is a plastic trim held in by push in poppers, the rubber side of said trim clips can leak.

Apply some silicone grease or gummiplfledge to the main boot seal as well

So, while I think this has helped I'm still getting water ingress into the boot. When I popped the boot open this morning, there was a large run of if water through the boot latch. As I went to close the boot even more ran out of the lining on the actual boot lid itself. I therefore think I'm getting the water ingress around the main boot seal...
Anyone got any thoughts?

The boot lid fills up overtime , when you open the boot lid the water runs backovers and runs out of the carpet. You really need to look at the 3rd brakelight seal which you cant buy separate and comes only with a new light . Remove the number plate holder surround . Its held on with poppers and a thin rubber type seal theres around 10 and anyone of them is a potential leak. Replace the lot or use silicone sealant . Then there's the gap at the top where metal meets plastic , run a bead of silicone the full length of this . Luckily for me my e320 was black so I used black silicone and couldn't notice it. I never saw water again.

This area is where it is wet. When I pulled off the pipes and started to peel this back, there was actually water in behind it, however, just on the passenger side.

That was then making me think I was having a leak along this rubber that seals against the boot lid when it all is closed...
