W211 OM642 40,000 miles fuel filter

As promised I've finished cutting open my fuel filter. Not much in there really, but the outside is much darker than the inside. It was an absolute bxxch to saw into!! What colour is a new one does anyone know?

I haven't cut up a new one, but I'd expect it to be a pale colour like a new air or oil filter. Also, there are transparent plastic bodied fuel filters with a pale coloured element
