W211: Play in ball joint

Hi There.
My 2004 W211 (50K miles) has "excessive play in the driver side lower suspension ball joint". Slightly surprised at this miles/age. Is this "normal"?

I had the same problem recently.My E320 is 3 years old and done only 30K.The dealer replaced both and said it was common on the E class. See my previous thread (search ball joints).

Thanks. Do these things get replaced in pairs? I ask, because the dealer replaced only the drivers side.
