These pumps can be bought from any Bosch outlet at trade prices, why pay more

Could you find me a number to call for that Malcolm, please?
I will ring them and see if they are available to us or not.
The only contact details I see are German numbers - not trying hard enough obviously :D

I have always bought my MAF, and CPC and batteries from them direct. they have altered their web site, and they did have a map. I hope I am right on these pumps. The Bosch dealers /agents fall into 2 groups, ones that do parts only and the others are service centers.

Thanks Malcolm, I will try calling the 0800 077 8866 when I get time, and see what goes.

Many thanks.

Oddly we have one this morning - service brake visit workshop.

Bosch UK have confirmed that the part is available, from Germany stock.
They were also able to give me the updated Bosch part number - although the person on the phone was unable to cross reference MB part numbers.
They have referred me to me local Bosch parts supplier (ECP in this case - a company I get o with), who are going to call me back when they have info.

Will update when I get more.

We are not quite there yet Malcolm!

Still awaiting a call back from ECP - last time I asked them they were unable to supply the part, so I will await the hatching of the chickens before I count them.

I hope the Bosch supplier ( in this case ecp) can work out the correct pump for the correct model, they all look the same but have different software. I don't hold out much hope.

I too an doubtful, but Bosch cross referenced the Bosch part number, quoting 2x newer numbers.
The worrying bit was the lack of UK stock (certainly of this particular part number, but I suspect all are from Germany stock only - we will see).

My man at Euro Car Parts' first response was something along the lines of 'head office say it is no longer available, but I think they are just not trying hard enough, so I have emailed them a snotty one back to get their arrears in gear' - something like that.

My worry is that no UK suppliers will play ball, if they only have stock in Germany - with the surcharge, different currency and tax zone, and return of the part it makes it a little complicated for a 'one off'.

I have been quoted £890 +vat from MB btw.

I cannot buy from Bosch UK direct, according to them.

It'll be a bugger if after its all fitted, it won't allow you to bleed and program it. I won't be using them until I know they can supply the correct one.

Lets face it they designed the thing, it must be easy to fit. The cost to both MB and Bosch in the USA must have been horrendous with the 12 year gurantee. for the amount of different pumps there had to be a simpler way.

It is easy to fit, but they designed several versions and you would only know if it was wrong when part into bleeding and programming it. I can see the problem will be the person looking up the part and selling it.

I know that Bosch seldom get it wrong, it's not Bosch that is looking it up and selling it to the customer, it's euro car parts or the like. As Ive said, I'll be willing to use them once I know they know their stuff, I'm not willing to waste mine and my customers time trying to fit an incorrectly looked up part. :D

Follow up thought,

How long is the Bosch / ECP warranty (poss 1 year)and will the price difference make up for the difference in warranty offered by mb?

Will they also supply the modified wiring and pipe which are needed to comply with the warranty terms?

From Bosch FAQs

"(3) Am I entitled to warranty performances?
Yes, we offer a two-year warranty on exchange units and we offer a one-year warranty on repairs."

I doubt that as they are Mercedes parts and they would have been needed any way even with the mercedes supplied ones.

I share the optimism of Malcolm and others above, but sadly also Ian's concerns.

There are scores of independent Mercedes Specialists up and down the country, and I know a good few of them - so far none that I am aware of having found a credible supplier that offers the correct product for a significant discount from the MB price.

See the new SBC pumps on Ebay - about 1800 IIRC.
'Reconditioned' available from various European (*cough*) sources for fair money, but not from known good suppliers, so you really have to suspect the worst.
MB asking 890 retail plus vat.
