I’m switching to a W211 in the very near future. How easy is adding aftermarket subs to this car? I know it has a ”fiber optic” system but I have no idea what this means in practice.
Should I add an aftermarket amp too? Can I? Is it easy? I have a JBL active sub and a JBL 4ch amp. Can I use these in the w211 or should I sell them?
Is the COMAND system upgradeable to a newer COMAND? I don’t like the idea of an Android HU so I’d replace it with another COMAND. Or is there a plug and play unit for it from a known company like Kenwood etc?

Hi - I have a W211 and have been looking into this myself. When it comes to changing the existing head unit for an Android one there are plenty of videos on Youtube that will show you each step. Like this:

Here is an example of an Android unit that still has the traditional look about it. https://www.erisin.com/products/eri...s-tpms-dab-4g-for-benz-e-class-w211-w463-w219

You will need to buy an extra box if you want DAB but have a look.

When it comes to subs and Amps you will need to get advice from someone else but I hope the above is useful.

if you are are keen to avoid anything with Android functionality and stick with original option you should start with https://www.commandonline.co.uk/ who several on here have used and are well regarded.

I added an amp and sub to my 57 plate W211. Local ICE company did it for me, charged about £100 to fit - so cant be too dificult

It will almost certainly not be feasible to upgrade to a later Comand head unit.
