I've just received a letter from Mercedes noting the following

'We have established that on some cars, the bonding between the glass panel and sliding roof frame may not meet the required specifications. It is therefore necessary to check and, if necessary, replace the sliding sunroof of your car'.

My car, a 2004 E55, is booked in at Mercedes on 11th August for the work completing.

If you have a W211 E Class with a glass sliding roof (mine is not panoramic) it might be worth contacting your MB dealer, quoting ref SRPC2001.

I couldn't believe there would be a recall on a car so old, but there we go. I'll update when the work is done.

Amazed at that , given it’s a 2004 vintage.

Right! So was Leeds Mercedes!

I thought perhaps it was an old recall, and my registering the car had triggered something, but it's quite new at May 2020.

From memory, recalls due to parts not meeting design spec are valid upto the end of the year in which the 10 year service parts supply ends for any variant of that model of car, plus the end of the warranty period for any of those service parts. That’s 2022 for the 211...

Thank you - that makes sense.

A good reminder too that getting parts for these old beasts will become tricky in a few years.

Best to pick up those trim bits and weather strips whilst I can.

Had my recall arrive in the post this morning. Shall see what my local MB have to say about it though don’t hold out much hope, not the best of dealerships.
