Hello,

I am just writing to see if there is any way to reset my region code after changing ot 3 times already, it was previously changed from when ever previous owner and I changed it twice and the final one was to region 8 (for cruiseships and airliners) so now i have effectively no dvd player working in the car as i have no region 8 dvds they are all region 2 and 1 and it wont leave me make anymore changes so I need to see is there any possible way to reset the counter?
All of this was done in engineering mode in the radio settings, i have done a "hard" reset and a "soft" reset and still no joy, i disconnected the battery for 15min to try clear everything and still no joy

The car is a 2010 w212 E350 amg sport

Thanks

are you the only person on the planet to have ever put a DVD in the drive of a car in the last 5 years?

they always had 5 max region changes.

a new drive might be the simplest fix and or a firmware update, in the good old days that would reset the counter on early drives

the whole pathetic idea came from the children in the movie industry trying to secure profits with differing release dates at cinemas, and to stop low cost discs from cheap economies being bought and used elsewhere...

note there has always been a way to make any DVD player region free (as in just work and not be so childish), but how is closely guarded secret... sounds like the thing you want to do is find an update or a combination of button presses to enable it... the drive will be one of the big few that ever made them (Toshiba and LG merged years back - and I think are the last few idiots to waste time making them)

Yeah thats true thats something I do not know, I taught it was 3 changes I only done two and it was locked then as I had a few dvds I was trying for the kids so was after changing it and couldnt get one to work so taught it may be the region 8 one but silly me didnt know about the limit of changes and yep none work now.

I am actually booked into mercedes in december for the airbag recall so might get them to see if they can reset it then but going from the age of the car im not sure if they will be to obliging to assist.

Thats what i was thinking also that surely there is some combo that i can press to make it region free but i cant find anything online, unless like you said if i get onto toshiba directly to see but theyd probbly pass me off as a mercedes issue and not their problem.

Thanks for the reply

just found this

but it would be best to sort the mess after your car has the last update available so you don't get customisations wiped out - of course in the great world we have now they mostly noble all the useful feature that a car has so an update might stop this working

  1. Connect Start diagnostic scanner to the OBD Port.
  2. Launch Xentry and select your vehicle.
  3. Press F2 a few times until you get connected to your vehicle.
  4. Select Control Units
  5. Select Information and Communication
  6. Select Audio, video, navigation, and telematics
  7. Select Control Unit COMAND
  8. Hit F2 a couple of times.
  9. Control Unit Adaptations
  10. Select Area Code (DVD)
  11. Select Coding to CODE-FREE
Press F3 to write coding to the Head Unit. Cycle the key off. Wait 10 seconds, and you should have a region free Mercedes COMAND/NAV system.
Note that on some models, you may need to access the region settings from the Developer menu.

don't think I believe this one

W211 Head Unit DVD Region code change | Mercedes-Benz Forum
got additional information.. once the player locks the region code, even STAR won't change it.
workaround solution is to run a DVD thru software called Nero Recode.. then burn a new DVD.. it comes out region free and will play in the car. Also gives you a backup of the DVD. Even worked with a "Mouse" DVD
