Out for a trundle in Arundel and she suddenly wasn't keen on changing up until knocking on the door of 3K...tried switching to S and then M alas to no avail....

Didn't much want to take the chance on taking her for a longer run....looking in the history seems there was an ATF change in 2021 at 60K (now at 76K)...

I think I read there is a 'gearbox service'....not sure what they do....

Anyone else?

Or DPF regeneration? Often hold on to revs to get the engine temperature up. Limp mode restricts gears to 3k max. Gearbox service Is just the fluid change I believe.

Yes reading some older threads I see mentioned replacing the DPF sensor seems to alleviate this issue. I am the first to admit I have no technical knowledge but not sure what the link is between DPF sensor and gearbox functionality?

No fault codes...I do have an iCARSOFT MB V2.0 given as a present but embarrassed to admit have not used yet, will this help diagnose a possible issure if no fault codes are displayed?

If the engine output is wrong, the gearbox will change its shift behaviour, later, firmer etc.

I suspect you are in partial limp mode, probably worth actually doing a diag, as throwing parts will always be more expensive

Plugged in the icarsoft mb v2 but no fault codes found, did navigate down to a DPF icon but just got the following image, I think I was hoping to get some current status as to how much soot/dust/ash etc were being stored.

PS Maybe not dust.

Hmmm took it to a local Mercedes specialist who plugged into Star and said no errors were found....took for a test drive and couldn't replicate the issue.

Gearboxes very rarely log fault codes for "driveability issues" like hard changes, late changes etc. They will need an analyse adaption data values.

Did you accompany them on the test drive? I always do as sometimes the customer knows best on how to replicate it.

I didn't accompany no, car seemed fine on the short drive in and I don't think I can replicate the issue at will.

Curses on intermittent issues!

For a cheap parts darts option, you could try giving the battery a good charge, amd changing the DPF pressure sensor for a genuine Merc unit. Sounds awfully like symptoms I was having, also without repeatable code generation. Turning off and on the car could clear the fault sometimes. It got more and more regular.

My new DPF pressure sensor has seemed to have sorted the issue.
