Just took my 2012 W212 to my local independent because I heard a creaking noise coming from the rear end. I suspected a spring or damper problem but boy was I shocked. The driver side subframe arm had sheared off, completely rusted. The passenger side is about to go. The rest of the car is immaculate. 80000 miles. FSH. Really cheesed off. Will contact Mercedes tomorrow to see what they say. Any advice?

Hello and welcome,

As long as you’ve not just bought it, Mercedes should replace it for you

Mercedes will replace the subframe under goodwill, but be ready for a bill for all new bolts, possible new brake lines and suspension parts.
A member on the other forum was being quoted this for extra work.

Sure. The other works relating to subframe being pulled out are:

Replace self levelling sensor (modified type available) and replace rear spring link arms £643

Replace brake lines both sides £562

Prices include VAT

Been there! Our 'extras' bill was about £660. Much better than £4K for a new subframe...

The rear axle brake lines are difficult to access and do suffer the hidden rust problem so a good time to do them MB are spot on with this. I headed this problem off by squirting waxoyl down the rear of the splash guards a bit hit and miss but the only option available

I can’t see a subframe replacement being denied by MB many have been done already it’s now the 12/13 plate cars coming through with the same problem poor rust proofing at the manufacturers to blame

Our subframe had rotted from the inside, so it had to be a manufacturing problem.
