Guys, just got a W212 saloon-Can anyone tell me where all the water drains are so I can check they are all clear as a preventative measure? I also have the pano roof.

Certainly on both front corners of the pano roof, running down either side of the windscreen, into the bonnet hinge area, and then down again to atmosphere.

I know because my previous car blocked on the passenger side, wetting the upper roof lining and dripping into the car - just once.

When clear, you can pour water into the corner and see it drip out into the bonnet hinge area and again onto the ground.

I cleared it with a length of strimmer cord and it never reoccurred.

I've never had to find the rears.

Thanks John-I will check that when I give the car a clean on the weekend. Many thank-Jim

i need to check mine, the interesting one in the picture above is 150 as i think that can get blocked meaning the pollen filter getting wet,

i want to locate that drain and check it on my own car due to windows misting up issues and bad smell when changing from hot to cold or vice versa in the heating

It is for the drains in the air intake bottom of front screen, the ones that can cause the heater box to fill up with water.

What happens to the drains in front of the screen is that the odd leaf will settle in front in the ends of the cover that houses the down pipes, they break up and wash down, the cannot pass through the stupid ears that Mercedes fit in the ends on the drain pipes. The pipe blocks and the water ends up in the heater box, from there is runs under the carpet into the side sills that house the sensitive CAN and Wake Up cables.

It is worth making sure they are clear, on my own CL500 I was just looking, I had no problem. But; I checked the off side and all clear by pouring water down. The nearside one just filled up, and did not drain.

The design is stupid, the longer I look at many common problems, the more I think that Mercedes do it on purpose to keep cars coming into the workshops. Re these flaps on the end of these down pipes, why are they there, they do nothing other than block. On my Volvo this could never happen, the actual grill for the air is raised 200mm higher than the base, so water could never get in even if the drain pipes blocked.

ok so to check for this

The pipe blocks and the water ends up in the heater box,

do you mean that i need to check the drains on the left and right side of the front windscreen ? and verify that water passes out from each front wheel ?

how can I see if any water is entering the heater box area ?

There is a drain pipe both sides and possible one in the center as in the drawing
As I said just pour water into each one and if it does not fill up, it must be running under the car and all clear.

You cannot, and as long as those 2 or 3 pipes are clear you will have no problem.

Hi All,

Just came across this thread as my 2011 E350 Estate has developed a leak on the front nearside of the headliner (sunroof aperture)

First thing i'm guessing is to clear the drain tubes but i'm dammed if i can find them (mine has pano roof) Can anyone post a picture showing exact location of front drain holes?
