I don’t know about the MBUX system but I don’t think voice control uses Bluetooth in any way so it shouldn’t be connected to the phone.. You may have to switch it on using one of the menus? Unless you are using Siri to control Car Play in which case the phone may be a necessity. Does your manual help at all?

What does your manual say for your installation?

I have the electronic manual and it’s garbage.

Looks like a press and release of the rocker button briefly invokes linguatronic.

If the phone is attached then Siri pipes up, with no phones I get to ask the car to go stuff and it works.

Things like turning on heated seats, changing temp, navigation work.

She’s running 04.80.00.20 so is likely in need of an upgrade or 10.

Confused now - you state you do have linguatronic but AIUI Siri overrides it if the phone is connected. OK so why not turn off Siri if you want to use the car's voice control. Were you hoping Siri would control the car functions? Unlikely. There are some In Car Office functions that may work with your phone but that will be dependant on what ism installed

To be fair I didn’t know it was still called linguatronic when I first posted. I never said I didn’t have it, I was asking if the car was meant to have it as I couldn’t invoke it.

my s212 has the linguatronic button that doesn’t do anything as the car doesn’t have linguatronic.

No I wasn’t hoping for Siri to control the car functions, why would I need a button to activate Siri?
I was expecting linguatronic to work when I press the button, not summon Siri. Siri works fine without me pressing anything.

this is the manual see page 266

today I discovered That if I’m using a CarPlay app (waze) and short press the linguatronic button Siri is invoked.

if I’m in the cars navigation and short press I get linguatronic. A long press will invoke Siri.
if I disconnect from car play and blue tooth and long press it complains it can’t connect to a phone, where I’d expect linguatronic to be invoked.

using the radio or media short press invokes Siri.

annoyingly linguatronic won’t make calls for me if CarPlay is connected as it need’s Bluetooth which doesn’t work, except to connect calls, if car play is being used.
I wanted to phone the Merc garage which isn’t in my phone contacts but the car displayed earlier as approaching service time, which is how I discovered that anomaly

bluetooth not active pic is what I was getting when it tries to use Siri for voice when b

The follwing is confirmed in the manual and in practice!
In my 2019 eclass that is fitted with Audio 20, not command, a short press activates car voice control only (for car functions such as radio, a/c, etc). A long press activates google assistant or whatever external is connected for whatever the external device offers, assuming the external device is connected via Bluetooth to the car and the internet via a data connection.
Peace!

I had an S212 2016 E350 and currently have an 2021 GLC with MBUX, a short press of the speech button should activate Linguatronic and a long press will activate Siri on my iPhone.

The S212 would only accept a limited number of commands and they had to be precise instructions with the S212 Comand system saying ‘telephone John Smith’ would not work but saying ‘call John Smith‘ would work and the Comand would telephone the person selected.

MBUX is much better with a larger recognition of commands.

There are still anomalies though if MBUX is connected to Apple Play it will struggle for instance to navigate to a contact but disconnect Apple Play and it works perfectly.

Maybe ops car requires a visit to main dealership for software updates.

Good luck,
Robin

I’m hoping they do a firmware update when it’s in for its b service. I asked but no doubt I’ll get the call saying it’s ready and turn up to find they’ve not done it.
