2019 E220d SE
Hi All,

I was very surprised to discover that my car (2019 E220d SE) does not have any locking wheel nuts fitted as standard.

I asked MB and the reply was they are an 'optional extra'. Crazy when you consider this is a £40k car and you get these fitted as standard on Ford Fiestas! The dealer wants £100+ for a set of 4 locking nuts!

There have been a rising spate of wheel thefts lately in my area (together with number plates) and I'm looking for a set of locking wheel nuts to fit the car.

Does anyone know the size of the wheel bolt fitted (picture of wheel below) so i can buy the correct size? Halfords has many different ones, all different sizes and they say they don't stock them for MB. The sizes are stated as an example as M14 x 1.5, etc. The wheel nut size is 17mm.

Also - can anyone recommend a good anti theft screw kit for number plates?

Thanks.

Only anti-theft screws I know of are Richbrook, sold at Halfords or directly from there web-site.

As for locking wheel nuts, you need to determine whether you have 12mm or 14mm thread size from memory.

I'd take one bolt out of front wheel and one from rear wheel and measure diameter and length of the bolts. Again I am sue the one in Halfords or other motorist suppliers will show which car and model they fit. Failing that look at brand you particularly prefer and use their web-site for guidance or send them an e-mail.

You could always enquire what M-B Grangemouth would charge for M-B genuine items with forum discount.

They normally come with them fitted by the supplying UK dealer - they remove one of the normal wheel bolts and replace it with a McGuard one - the key and 4 spare bolts are then stored in the boot.
First thing I do is remove the locking bolts and replace them with the original wheel bolts as the locking ones have a tendency to get mangled by wheel fitters and Mercedes service technicians. I don't remember the last time I heard about wheels being stolen - yours look like standard 17" SE wheels (which are great) rather than the huge AMG rims so I'm surprised you're being targeted.

A trip to dealers for a box off the shelf for a locking set is in order. If you are nice they will fit them for no cost. But be weary there will come a time when either they get chewed up by a bad tyre place using an air gun or some kind soul will forget to give you the nut, which will cause you a world of pain and cost as they will need to tap it off, then you will just go back to stock bolts

Sold - 2021 CLA 35 Premium.
As Blobcat said locking wheel nuts/bolts are fitted by the supplying dealer prior to delivery when brand new.
This is the way it has been for me with Ford, Honda, Audi and now Mercedes.
