Hi all,

I picked up my W213 (facelift) Saloon back in October after handing back my W213 coupe (pre face-lift) and noticed that my dipped lights seem to be wrong. In the UK where we have left-side traffic, it is to my understand that dipped beams should be higher towards the left side, as oppos ed to the right side which it was for my coupe. For example, the light pattern should look like this (like on my previous W213 coupe):

However, this is the light pattern that I receive on my new W213 saloon looks like this:

I have taken my car back to the garage twice now, first time they quickly looked over it and called me after 1hr30 to say there were no issues. After a week or two of oncoming cars flashing me, I took the car back into the garage and was dealt by a Senior Engineer who also said there are no issues with this?

If I switched it to the right-side traffic, after a while I receive constant error messages on my dash stating: "Check dipped-beam setting (left/right side traffic)".

Has anybody else come across this issue?

I can't seem to get the image to load. My car has got the same system. I have not had any reason to alter the head lights but I have seen the instructions on the screen between the speedo and rev counter. I am under the impression that left or right side traffic is what is approaching you though I could be wrong.

Can you see the images below?

The usual UK light pattern:

you're right .... it doesn't look correct o_O
That's what I thought, but the "senior technician" said there is no issues...

Anybody else having these issues?

Will try and remember to have a look at mine tonight to see what it looks like. Out of interest, does the pattern change when selecting right and Auto settings?

Thanks mate. When I change it to Right-Hand traffic, the raised bit is no longer raised and it is just a flat line, after a while I get a very annoying continuous popping up of a message on my dash saying "Check dipped-beam setting (left/right side traffic)".

I drove this morning and it's still the same, I can't believe the "senior engineer" mentioned there is no problems??

I can see a possible recall coming.....

Do you think this serious? I have never had a vehicle recalled. What's the process? Do I receive another vehicle in the meantime?

Depends whether this is a factory issue that affects a batch of cars as to whether it will be a recall so don’t be overly concerned

Can't get out to get a proper photo against a wall due to snow, and the lights do t show that we'll we'llst the garage door, but it actually looks like mine have a similar pattern, though it is a pre-facelift, so slightly different light units. Will post a photo when I can get out and get to somewhere with a proper wall.

That would be helpful. I am based in Manchester and I have booked in at another garage for the start of Feb for them to take a look at. Third time lucky I guess...

By the way, do you have a software option to set the speedo. Is it set to Km by mistake?

No it's set to mph. All settings are set to UK settings, just the light pattern is weird..

Is it worth a try to play around with the UK/EU settings just in case that fixes the light beam ?

Yes it's definitely worth a try, I did look into this when this began to happen and I will try again but from what I remember there was no luck.

Managed to get a picture today, though not perfect. Looks the opposite way to yours. This is set to Left Hand Traffic, though I only have the option of left and right, not Auto. I'm guessing that is new on the Facelift, and maybe works off the GPS or something. Headlight.jpg

Both are clearly wrong! Uptick to should be to the left not the right.

Very odd. I'd be tempted to play around on the diagnostics computer but if both 213s are like that I'd like to see how they obtained type approval in the UK with a beam pattern like that.
