Hi Folks

MY 2016 E220d W213 only reading half full. I noticed the the fuel was down to the reserve a bit quicker than I thought. Filled up at the filling station and the pump cut out quicker than I expected. Paid and got back in and when I started it only read half full, and the range was the only half what I'd expect.
I talked to my mechanic and he tells me that there are 2 sensors in the tank and only one is replicable??

About a week before I'd gotten a software upgrade to clear a service warning message, what that have anything to do with it?

Is there any wizardry that can be done to fix this, the cluster seems ok as it goes through the self test ok.

Thx
Gordon

So, if I understand you correctly, you insert the pump nozzle into the filler pipe, and when it's full ,the pump automatically stops? But then it only shows 50% on the dash?

Hi Jim
Yes correct. As I said apparently there 2 sensors in the tank and apparently one has stopped working. One of these can be changed and the other cannot, you have to change the tank (nice one MB). Now is this just another example of poor quality MB components or is it a software fault that the sender unit needs to be reset.
I was wondering if this was a know issue with the W213?

Thx

First that I've heard of it, but if it's a common issue, they'll know about it here on the forum. And even if you retract the nozzle a bit does it make any difference?

Ah, OK. So the reality is that you have a full tank, but it's only reading half full on the dash? But when the actual level drops to 50%, its OK from that point on?

No, the range reads only half and when the dash reads in reserve there will still be half a tank of fuel in it. It's like it doesn't know anything about the other half of the tank.

Looks like dead reckoning is the only option....fill to brim, take mileage, then you should have 800 klms driving ( in my 2014 e class 220. ****** nuisance. Have you thought about a tank from a scrappie?

I'm having a similar ( but not the same ) kind of fuel tank problem. Normally, when the tank is filled to the brim, range should read 800K Lms. and pro rata all the way down to the reserve,,,,guage at 50%, = 400 KLms remaining. But yesterday, the level dropped from 3/4 to 1/2 full after only 285 KLms driven. And today, after driving a measured 14 Klms, the indicated remaining fuel calculation showed a fuel level of 28 Klms driven.....so now, plan B...drive until normal refill is needed, and then compare it with previous history.
