Hello,

So, here i am again with another w213 problem.

The engine has a tractor like noise/sound. Upon opening the bonnet and checking it seems to come from the air intake side.

When the engine is in regen mode i.e. slightly higher rpm, the noise is not there.

Did some search and saw some videos on youtube. Seems that this is a rockers arm issue. Also showed it to one garage and the guy tells me that this is a rockers arm issue. What do you guys think?

Is it safe to drive like this?

Engine: 654
Mileage: 111,000

If its a popping deep noise, it's very likely. Post up a video (upload to YouTube then post here)

If it sounds even deeper and just like a tractor when you remove the plastic intake from the air filter housing (two tabs) , then you most definitely will need new rocker arm and camshafts. It will eventually cause a misfire.

Rocker arm wear does seem to be an issue with the OM654 can’t help but think long service intervals don’t help with top end wear

656 as well.

Catch it early, and whilst its a big ish repair, its not too bad.

yes it is a deep popping noise. like a pump, echoing.

i hope it does not cause misfire :( why camshafts if they are in the right working order and not damaged?

yes, everywhere i have been reading it seems that this is a text book type issue which comes in sooner or later. my car has been serviced with mercedes and always once a year, only drive about 12k miles a year.

656 as well.

Catch it early, and whilst its a big ish repair, its not too bad.
how much do you think it will cost to repair this? and how many days will it require?

can it be done as a DIY? :(
