Hi All.

I started getting the error Intelligent light system inoperative some months ago, the messages come in randomly. The last time this came up was about 3 weeks ago on a motorway drive on my way to get the MOT done would you believe it. I explained to the MOT people that it had only just come on during my trip down.

After the MOT, the warning light no longer appeared. However I do need it to come back so that I can diagnose the issue.

Any ideas here please ?

Thanks.

Are the lights themselves behaving ok? Doing their little dance when you start up, etc?

I will check today, also at night exactly which light should come on and are there any other tests that I can do ? I know the single ribbon led at the top of the headlight comes on, but doesn't the main beam need to come on as well ?

First thing is to check the start up sweep - ideally a few feet from a wall, garage door, etc but the sweep is pretty noticeable to be honest - you'll normally see it sweep up, down there an outwards/inwards or side-to-side sweep. That will at least confirm the motors are working.

It'll then be up to your Mk1 Eyeball to check both dip beams and main beams are operating normally.

The LED ribbon is, if we're talking the same item, the DRL, which is basically always on. Main beam (well, dipped headlamp) will only come on once the dusk sensor says so, or if you switch lights on manually.

Hi,

On testing now during the day, I can see movement within the main/headlamps, but the dancing on the lights is more pronounced at night. At the moment I cannot really tell, I will test when its dark and report back.
