W219 CLS Carneol Red - Unloved?

Hi Chaps,

I'm hoping to return to the Benz world after a few years in the wilderness - with a W219 CLS.

I'm not a fan of silver or black, which is considerably limiting the choice! I've seen a few online in Carneol red (colour code 544), but haven't yet viewed one in the flesh. Having had a W124 in Almandine red I quite like that sort of colour, but it does appear a bit 'muddy' in many online photos.

Not many seem to come up for sale (and those that do tend to 'linger' quite a while), so I was wondering if the colour is a bit 'unloved' on the CLS - or is it nicer in 'real life'?

A lot don’t photo as well as they look. Way too many black or silver, nice to see something different

Always view in the flesh to really see the colour. The photos will be impacted by various cameras, camera setting, lens condition, lighting conditions, paint condition battered by the $5 car wash etc.

I don't think the reds for Mercedes photo well. The blends of reds are quite a bit different compared to most cars. As an example I never liked hyacinth red but, on the 218 CLS, its a winner when its polished up and an added bonus if the sun light hits it.

My S204 is Carneol Red - it's like a burgundy colour with a slight metallic flake, looks lovely when clean and polished, quite a discreet colour compared to the fire opal red of my SLK

That picture doesn't do the colour justice, it is very nice in the metal

I agree Russ, especially when she's just been washed and maybe polished - which ATM she's not as nursing wife post major operation means time for other things is rather short! We've had the S204 since March 2012 and intend to keep it until either it or we rust out, really love that car!
