Hi All

After my bro-in-law had a mess around in my 2000 S320 W220 (he previously owned a 98 E200) he went and purchased a 2002 S320 CDI, now tis a gorgeous machine shorter than me own BUT he's only had it a month and now the ar*e end of it is sticking up as if the vehicle rising button is constantly on he's got the airmatic warning but it doesn't sound if the pump is constantly running, he's been told it's the airmatic pump but I'd thought I'd dip into the font of knowledge that is these here boards.

ps: the local lad that normally fixes our cars is off doing his "specialist diagnostic thingy course".

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'll admit that I know nothing about this system, but I'm surprised that the compressor has been singled out. Could it not also be the level control system, as air is obviously being supplied to the rear suspension units?

There is a unit that sits next to the air compressor which distributes the air to the various shock absorbers/struts. This may be the problem.

But....The compressor is very likely to be at fault too as they are crap and do not last very long. Ive just put a second one on a 2001 car.

A test with a star should point you in the right direction.
