I'm not sure that I'm in the correct forum but I've heard of some horrendous electronic problems with the W220, can anyone please tell me what to look out for specifically on an S320L CDi SE. I am looking to spend up to £20K on an 05/06 with 30-40 thousand miles on the clock?

I look forward to your replies.

Early ones had some problems but post facelift much better. From 2003 fully galvanised all steel panels. JD Power and other surveys show steady improvement in MB reliability especially from 2003 onwards. E class is in top 10 for 2008.

Cheapest S320cdi with dealers, I could find using the MB search engine on their website, is at the Gatwick dealer -only 23k miles, 2006 registered, but asking £30k.

Look on "Used cars for sale" Autotrader web site, currently 400+ for sale.

Yes but only 37 of them are reasonably new (over £18k) and nearly all of them are 220 series. The cheapest 221 I could find there tonight was £26k.

Thanks for the info gents, however, if I were to contemplate a 221 series on my budget, it would be one of the first off the production line, this is never a good idea in my experience; I prefer to buy a late well established model so all of the early faults have been ironed out before build.
