I had my gearbox rebuilt 4 weeks ago inc New Torque converter by MB dealership at the grand cost inc new MAF of $8500 NZ!! (approx 3000 pounds)
The last few days I have had the airmatic warning come on & engine go into limp mode. Restart always clears it.
Using carsoft each time it comes up with the following codes,
Engine unit 0715 refer to diagnose Trans control unit.
EGS 109 RPM n3 sensor
Airmatic CAN 1027-001 can communication with engine control unit disturbed.

At least each time the faults are consistent which should help.

Its booked back in next week but just want some help to make sure they don,t blame something else when its part of the job they did last time.

Do you think it is the RPM sensor faulty or is that being effectyed by something else?

Any help or advise appreciated.

Happy new year ( its only 5 hrs away for us iN nz)

Hi Kevin, Sorry about no answer, not always easy. there is no real connection between the suspension and the engine/trans, other than possibly through a SAM.

I do not think that I have the codes that you put up, but I will check later today

Hello,

What age is your 220?

The speed sensor fault codes that is coming up in the gearbox, looks like it refers to the electronic plate thats in the bottom of the gearbox!! It has a couple of speed sensors in it!! This will cause gearbox to go into limp home mode! I can't remember if you can get them separate or if it comes complete with a new electronic plate but check with your dealership to see if if was changed when the box was overhauled? I have had cars before do similar things after a gearbox overhaul and it was caused by a bit out crap that was still in the box from when it originally failed and broke up! it can get trapped on sensor a give it a bad reading!!

If im wrong please anyone correct me! But hope this maybe of some help!!

Good luck

It’s a little difficult to form any conclusions based on the info you have posted. The reasons I say this are because carsoft is very poor and you would also need info from other modules.
It looks from what you posted that there is a speed signal error from the trans which is then commanding the engine to go into limp. This can also cause the airmatic error.

The first thing to do with this is to check the actual values from the trans for the speed signals and a visual inspection of the wiring/plugs. The electric pack could be at fault or damaged wiring. The speed sensors and solenoids share a common supply with the return going directly to the trans ecu so if there is only one trans code the problem is going to be between the sensor and ecu. A rebuilt trans should have got a new electric pack but I have seen a few that didn’t.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your help. I checked with the dealership when the fault first appeared to see if they had replaced the "electrics pack" in the gear box & they did not. It was cleaned & visually inspected & reused.
If they decide it is the problem I am hoping to get free labour & just pay for the part on the basis that it should have been replaced when the gear box was built.
You live in hope!!
Thanks again for confirming my thoughts, I was just really hoping it would be something less but it doesn,t seem like it.

Regards
Kevin
