W220 steering rack

Intermittent fault with the power steering on mt 2002 S320CDi. Sterring is usually quite heavy and, sometimes, extremely heavy at manoeuvring speeds - so heavy that my wife would not be able to turn the wheel.

I've had an exchange recon rack fitted but the solenoid on the new rack was u/s.

My mechanics are divided between the fault being with the solenoid on the roack or the pump..

Never had this problem myself but generally a solenoid can stick, giving intermittent faults, whereas a pump is mechanical & should either be OK or worn, not intermittent.

Thanks for that. Only trouble is that it seems I cannot buy a solenoid without buying the rack that goes with it ....
